Treatment
Treatment varies from person to person, in concordance to the type & severity of the disease. At present there is no definitive cure for MS, however with the correct course of treatment it is manageable, and can even slow the progression of the disease.
If the symptoms you show are mild in nature, treatment may not be required. Instead you can use ‘self-help’ techniques to manage the condition yourself. Techniques like exercise to reduce muscle weakness, exercising your pelvic floor to minimize the risk of urinary incontinence, and speech therapy to withhold the deterioration of communication, are all simple yet very effective measures of managing the symptoms of MS.
If you experience a relapse, or as the disease progresses it becomes more symptomatic, then a number of drugs and treatments are available. (see Drugs)
Since 2009, disease modifying treatments have been available, which reduce the rate of progression of the disease by impeding the inflammatory response. (see Disease Modifying Medication).
